On October 14th, 2024, Worcester Police officers were dispatched to a report of a breaking and entering in progress on Belmont Street. Upon arrival, officers were shown surveillance of a male opening a window and climbing through. He was seen taking a laptop and a purse.
Officers quickly located the male, later identified as forty-three-year-old Rafael Gonzalez, riding his bike on Shrewsbury Street. He began to accelerate and weaved in and out of traffic upon noticing officers. During the pursuit, officers observed Gonzalez discarding a backpack. Officers caught up Gonzalez and placed him under arrest. Officers recovered the backpack and found the laptop and some bolt cutters inside. Officers were not able to find the purse.
Gonzalez is charged with Breaking and Entering in the Daytime to Commit a Felony. Larceny from A Building, Possession of Burglarious Instruments, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct.
