WPD Officers Arrest Two Males on Several Gun Charges After Pursuit
On September 23rd, 2024, at approximately 9:57 PM, a Worcester Police officer conducted a traffic stop near Quinsigamond Avenue after confirming the operator’s registration for insurance had been revoked. The operator provided the officer with his license, which identified him as twenty-two-year-old Pedro Echevarria Junior. A passenger was identified as twenty-year-old Isaiah Small.
Other officers arrived on scene to assist. Since his registration was revoked, Echevarria was ordered to exit the vehicle. He then accelerated at a high rate of speed, disregarding the safety of the officers. One officer’s foot was run over by the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Echevarria continued to speed putting other drivers and multiple pedestrians in danger. The vehicle came to a stop on Russell Street near Elm Park and both occupants were taken into custody.
A search of the vehicle revealed a working firearm in plain sight behind the driver’s seat. The Crime Scene Unit arrived on scene to secure the weapon. Further investigation determined that Echevarria and Small do not possess a valid License to Carry firearms in Massachusetts.
Echevarria is charged with possession of a large capacity firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, improperly storing a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a large capacity firearm with a feeding device, operating with a revoked registration, operating to endanger and failure to stop for police.
