On July 14, 2024, at approximately 1:05 AM, Worcester Police officers were patrolling Main Street when they observed twenty-three-year-old Onix Aviles who was known from previous police encounters. Officers observed him exit a vehicle with a large black satchel across his chest. An investigation revealed he did not have a valid driver’s license.
Moments later, officers observed Aviles driving the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Southbridge Street. Once more officers arrived on scene, Aviles was removed from the vehicle, along with passenger twenty-nine-year-old Felix Mejias.
Officers searched the vehicle and found a large capacity magazine inside of the glove box. Officers then discovered a black firearm laying between the rear seats. Both men were placed under arrest. The Crime Scene Unit arrived and recovered the weapon, which was loaded.
Onix Aviles is charged with Carrying a Firearm without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of Large Capacity Feeding Device, Defacing the Serial Number of a Firearm, Possession of Ammunition without FID, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License and Failure to Signal.
Felix Mejias is charged with Carrying a firearm without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possess Large Capacity Feeding Device, Defacing the Serial Number of a Firearm and Possession of Ammunition without FID.
