On September 9th 2023 at about 1:35 PM, Worcester Police officers responded to Townsend St for a report of a stabbing in progress. Upon arrival, officers saw a shirtless male covered in blood, and another male holding a box cutter. Officers told the male with the box cutter to drop it, and placed him in handcuffs while they assisted the wounded man. The male holding the box cutter was identified as Steven Davitt, thirty-nine-years-old of Townsend St.
WPD officers and Worcester firefighters rendered aid to the fifty-four-year-old male victim, who appeared to be suffering from multiple serious stab wounds. He was transported to the hospital by paramedics and is expected to survive.
Once the victim was brought to the hospital, officers began to investigate. They determined that the male stabbing victim and Mr. Davitt are neighbors who have had disputes in the past. Today, a fight broke out and Mr. Davitt stabbed the victim several times. During the altercation, officers were told that another neighbor attempted to break up the fight and Mr. Davitt struck him in the face with a piece of concrete.
Mr. Davitt was placed under arrest and is charged with Armed Assault to Murder, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (box cutter), Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (rock) and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife.)
