On June 20th 2024, Worcester Police officers assigned to the Neighborhood Response Team were on patrol in the area of Lake Ave when they observed a motorcycle with a broken headlight traveling recklessly at a high rate of speed. They turned around, and saw that the motorcycle had no license plate and that the operator had stopped for ice cream in the area of 195 Lake Ave.
As officers approached the operator, later identified as twenty-eight-year-old Murtadha Dheyab of Auburn, he took of running. As officers chased him, they saw that he kept reaching into his waistband with his right hand. As officers got closer to him, they observed Mr. Dheyab drop what appeared to be a handgun. Mr. Dheyab does not have a license to carry firearms and was placed under arrest. Officers confirmed that the item dropped was a loaded Glock handgun.
He is charged with an outstanding arrest warrant, Operating to Endanger, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Operating with a Suspended License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Fedding Device, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace, Trespass and Resisting Arrest.
