On July 11th 2023, officers assigned to the Neighborhood Response Team were on patrol in the area of Pleasant at Hawley St. At about 4:45 PM, an officer observed two males who appeared to be in a heated argument in front of Santiago’s Liquors. One of the males, identified as Luis Bermudez, thirty-two-years-old of Main St, appeared to be reaching into a fanny pack. The officer pulled up next to Mr. Bermudez, and the officer ordered him to take his hand out of the fanny pack. Mr. Bermudez appeared shocked and sprinted away from the officer.
The officer called out the Mr. Bermudez’s description and went around the corner on to Hawley St, where he observed a small crowd looking at something on the ground. The officer continued past them and located Mr. Bermudez hiding between two dumpsters. The officer detained Mr. Bermudez, while other officers located a handgun on the ground nearby. Mr. Bermudez does not have a license to carry and was placed under arrest. Officers determined that Mr. Bermudez threw his firearm into a group of people, causing injury to one of them.
He is charged with Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Improper Storage of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Possession of a Ammunition without an FID Card, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Trespass, Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol. He will be arraigned in court.
