WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) was recently awarded the Municipal IT Excellence Award at the Massachusetts Digital Government Summit for its “Work From Anywhere” initiative.
The initiative upgraded the municipality’s approach to cybersecurity and transformed its desktop-oriented employee experience to an updated and reimagined end-user experience. To do this, DoIT employed the following strategy for employee workstations:
The outcome is a workforce with access to robust and secure technology wherever they are, a remote work experience consistent with in-office experience, and a meeting room experience that better accommodates remote participants and employees in multiple municipal locations.
“This was an incredible and complex project, and I couldn’t be prouder of the team here at DoIT for stepping-up and delivering for the City of Worcester,” said Chief Information Officer Michael Hamel. “In addition to providing new tools that have been game changing for employees, the initiative also greatly improved the municipality’s cybersecurity and presented an opportunity to continue building the IT organization of the future.”
The Summit and Award program are coordinated by Government Technology, an award-winning family of magazines covering information technology's role in state and local governments.
