WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks (DPW&P), in collaboration with Worcester Public Schools, announced Wednesday its “Name a Snowplow” contest to name four snowplow trucks for the 2024-2025 Winter season.
To celebrate the winter season and the creativity of our young scholars, Worcester Public Schools students in grades K-12 will submit entries to be voted on by the public to name trucks that plow main arterials in four different quadrants of the city.
“The Name a Snowplow Contest is an opportunity to have some fun, work collaboratively with the Worcester Public Schools, and highlight the dedication of DPW&P who we all rely on during the winter months” said City Manager Eric D. Batista. “I’m excited to see what the students submit and have the public vote to name four of our most visible trucks.”
“We’re thrilled to invite our scholars to showcase their creativity and community pride by naming Worcester’s snowplows! This contest is a fun way to engage young minds and celebrate the spirit of our city,” said Superintendent of Worcester Public Schools Dr. Rachel Monárrez. “We can’t wait to see the imaginative names our students come up with!”
Submissions will be accepted through Dec. 20, and public voting will take place Dec. 23 – Jan. 5. The winning entries will be announced the week of Jan. 6, and the names will be added to the trucks in the subsequent weeks. Winning classrooms will have their photos taken with the trucks, receive DPW&P swag, and be recognized at a future City Council meeting.
