For Immediate Release: 1/24/2023 8:51 pm
WORCESTER, Mass. – In anticipation of a forecasted snowstorm on Wednesday, Jan. 25, a Declared Winter Parking Ban for Worcester will go into effect at 2 p.m. Worcester Public Schools previously announced a two-hour early release.
Beginning at 11 a.m. on Jan. 25, municipal parking garages will be free of charge to any vehicle that enters until the Declared Winter Parking Ban is lifted. Residents are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to move their cars from City streets.
During the Declared Winter Parking Ban, parking is prohibited on either side of main arteries, emergency and bus routes, and streets in the downtown area critical to the flow of traffic. On all other streets, parking is only permitted on the odd numbered side of the street, unless otherwise posted.
Towing and ticketing may be enforced to keep streets clear. For questions, residents should contact Worcester 311 by dialing 3-1-1, emailing 311@worcesterma.gov, or visiting worcesterma.gov/311. Worcester 311 will be open extended hours, from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Jan. 25.
City officials urge residents to drive with caution as temperatures drop below freezing, leave additional time for travel, and stay clear of plows. Residents are reminded that they have up to 10 hours from the end of a winter storm to clear the sidewalks abutting their property of any snow and ice. Residents who are able are also asked to clear snow around fire hydrants and catch basins in their neighborhoods. Snow should not be put in the street.
