WORCESTER, Mass. – City officials are preparing for a winter storm on Sunday, Dec. 11, that is expected to bring 2 to 2.5 inches of snow to Worcester.
The Department of Public Works & Parks (DPW&P) will begin pre-treating roads when snowfall commences, and a Declared Winter Parking Ban will go into effect at 8 p.m. in anticipation of snow plowing. Municipal parking garages will be free of charge to any vehicle that enters after 6 p.m. until the Declared Winter Parking Ban is lifted.
Residents are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to move their cars from City streets; however standard/event rates will apply for any vehicle that enters a municipal garage before 6 p.m.
During the Declared Winter Parking Ban, parking is prohibited on either side of main arteries, emergency and bus routes, and streets in the downtown area critical to the flow of traffic. On all other streets, parking is only permitted on the odd numbered side of the street, unless otherwise posted. Towing and ticketing will be enforced to keep streets clear. For questions, contact Worcester 311 (formerly DPW&P Customer Service) by dialing 3-1-1, emailing 311@worcesterma.gov, or visiting worcesterma.gov/311.
City officials urge residents to drive with caution, leave additional time for travel, and stay clear of plows. Residents are reminded that they have up to 10 hours from the end of a winter storm to clear the sidewalks abutting their property of any snow and ice. Residents who are able are also asked to clear snow around fire hydrants in their neighborhoods. Snow should not be put in the street.
