On April 7th 2022 at about 1:48 PM, Worcester Police officers were dispatched to the Alhuda Academy at 248 East Mountain St for a report of a bomb threat. Upon arrival, officers began to re-direct traffic as the school and nearby residences were evacuated. Officers established a perimeter around the school and kept the public away from the area.
The Massachusetts State Police and the Worcester Police K9 officers were contacted and responded to the scene. K9 units trained in Explosive Ordnance Disposal from the Worcester Police Department, WPI, and the Massachusetts State Police did a detailed search of the interior and exterior of the building and located nothing suspicious. The building was opened up again at about 3:30 PM.
The initial investigation revealed that the threatening calls were from one phone number. The source of the calls is under investigation and has been referred to the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
With the religious holidays of Passover, Easter, and Ramadan approaching, officers will be conducting additional periodic checks of religious institutions. Worcester community members are encouraged to report any suspicious behavior.
