On January 23rd 2022 at about 1:45 AM, Worcester Police officers were dispatched to the area of Green St for a report of a person with a gun. Upon arrival, officers determined that there had been a dispute in which a firearm was brandished. Officers received information that the suspect left in a white Mercedes with dark tinted windows, and the information was broadcast over the radio.
At about 2 AM, an officer observed a vehicle that matched the description on Park Avenue. When the officer pulled behind the vehicle, it began to increase its speed. It turned on to Beaver Brook, Spaulding St, and ended up on Vineyard St. At this point, the vehicle slowed down and the officer observed a metal object thrown out the passenger side window.
The vehicle stopped and the officers approached the vehicle and removed the occupants. An officer determined that the object that was thrown from the vehicle was a loaded handgun with a high capacity magazine. The driver of the vehicle, Steven Melecio, twenty-six-years-old of Leominster, did not have a license to carry firearms. He was placed under arrest and is charged with Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card. He will be arraigned in court. The incident on Green St is under investigation.
