For Immediate Release: 4/15/2022 10:20 am
On April 15th 2022 at about 12:45 AM, officers involved in the Chief’s initiative to prevent gun violence were on patrol in the area of Grafton and Franklin St when they observed a Honda sedan with Rhode Island plates drive through the red light at the intersection. The officers ran the license plate through CJIS and found out that the vehicle was stolen. They activated their blue lights and attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the vehicle drove away and the pursuit was terminated.
The officers saw the vehicle about ten minutes later on Belmont St. A different officer followed the vehicle without activating his lights and siren, and observed it turn from Adams St on to Creston St. The vehicle stopped at the end of the street and four males exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Officers chased the males and caught up to two of them. The males were both sixteen-years-old. One of the males had a loaded handgun in his waistband when officers caught up to him. The other male threw a loaded handgun during the foot pursuit and was taken into custody afterwards.
Both males were placed under arrest, and are charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card. They will be arraigned in court. The vehicle, which was stolen from Providence, was towed and held for its owner.
