On December 13th 2023 at about 9:07 AM, Worcester Police officers were dispatched to M&T Bank on Front St for a report of a possible robbery attempt. Officers were given a detailed description of the potential suspect and told that he might be armed with a firearm. Upon their arrival, officers’ attention was drawn to a man, later identified as forty-two-year-old Javier Camacho of Winthrop St, who was standing across the street from the bank. Mr. Camacho matched the description given by witnesses, and started to walk away when officers approached.
Some officers spoke with witnesses on scene, who reported that a male threatened someone with a firearm and demanded money. Other officers briefly spoke with Mr. Camacho, who ran away when officers saw what appeared to be a firearm in his possession.
After a brief foot pursuit, Mr. Camacho was taken into custody. Officers recovered a loaded handgun. After a brief investigation, officers determined that Mr. Camacho was the male described by witnesses. Mr. Camacho was arrested and charged with Kidnapping, Extortion, Attempted Armed Robbery, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Use of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct and Disturbing the Peace.
