On April 3 at approximately 9:15am, officers observed a male operating a motorcycle on the sidewalk on Oread Street heading towards Beacon Street. Concerned about pedestrian safety, officers pulled over forty-six-year-old Joseph Baez of Worcester.
While speaking with Baez, an officer noticed his fanny pack open with multiple hypodermic needles inside. The fanny pack was removed for safety. Baez was searched and officers discovered fentanyl on his person, a bag of crack cocaine under his clothing, and a large sum of cash.
Baez was taken back to Worcester Police Headquarters for booking. Officers counted the money and weighed the drugs. $1,090 cash, along with 18 grams of crack cocaine and 5.5 grams of fentanyl was recovered. Baez is being charged with trafficking in Class B 18-36 grams, possession of a Class A with intent, unregistered MV, uninsured MV and operating with a revoked license.
