On December 6th 2023 at about 1:19 PM, a Worcester Police officer was on patrol in the area of Austin St when he ran the license plate of a parked Acura and noticed that the license plates came back to a Ford truck. The officer noticed that a male, later identified as fifty-three-year-old Carlos Torres of Main St, appeared to be sleeping in the front seat. The officer asked Mr. Torres to shut off the vehicle, but Mr. Torres refused. The officer was holding the door when Mr. Torres suddenly accelerated away from the scene, briefly pulling the officer with the vehicle.
The officer returned to his vehicle and pursued Mr. Torres, who was throwing bags of out of the window before stopping near Joey’s Bar and Grill on Chandler St. Officers saw Mr. Torres attempt to throw bags down a sewer drain before they took him into custody. Officers found additional bags of what appeared to be cocaine, bags of what appeared to be heroin, bags with a white powder that will be sent for testing, packaging materials, and a double-edged knife.
Mr. Torres is charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (car), Trafficking in a Class B Substance 18-36 Grams, Possession of a Class A Substance with Intent to Distribute (2nd or subsequent), Operating to Endanger, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, Failure to Stop for Police, Resisting Arrest, Tampering with Or Destroying Evidence, and several motor vehicle charges. The officer did not suffer any serious injuries.
