Since March 15th 2022, Worcester Police officers have been dispatched to commercial break calls at Canal District businesses El Patron on Harding St and Tom’s Deli on Millbury St. Those breaks are under investigation, and officers on patrol have been keeping an eye out for suspicious activity consistent with breaks. On March 22nd 2022 at about 4:45 AM, a Worcester Police officer on patrol noticed that the windows to Maddi’s Taphouse on Water St had been broken.
The officer was able to observe the incident over surveillance footage. He observed a male wearing black pants, work boots, a blue hooded sweatshirt and a jean jacket throw a rock multiple times at the exit door of the restaurant. The male broke the window and tried to gain access to the building, but failed. The male went to the main entrance of the building and threw the same rock at the adjacent window. Once again, he tried to enter the building but failed.
The officer sent a department email to see if anyone could identify the male, and multiple officers recognized the male as John Donohoe, fifty-four-years-old of Fairmont Ave. On March 23rd at about 2 AM, officers located Mr. Donohoe in the Kelley Square area. He was still wearing the same clothes that were seen on the male who attempted to break into Maddi’s Taphouse. Mr. Donohoe was placed under arrest for Attempt to Commit a Crime (Breaking and Entering in the Nighttime to Commit a Felony) and Vandalism. He will be arraigned in court. The investigations of the other breaks are ongoing.
