On December 29th 2023 at about 9:48 PM, Worcester Police officers were dispatched to the area of 765 Main St for a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located a male stabbing victim. Officers rendered medical aid until the forty-three-year-old victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance with serious wounds.
Detectives arrived on scene and began the follow-up investigation. After speaking with witnesses and viewing surveillance footage, detectives sent out a department email with a picture of a male and female who might have been involved in the incident.
An officer was working a police detail in the area of Austin and Irving St when he saw the male and female from the picture. The male was refusing to show his hands or follow the officer’s commands. The officer waited for backup, then took the male into custody. A pat frisk revealed a knife with dried blood on it, and other evidence was uncovered linking the male to the stabbing.
The male, identified as thirty-five-year-old Jose Rivera of Main St, was placed under arrest for Armed Assault to Murder.
