On August 18th 2023 at about 4:22 PM, Worcester Police officers responded to the area of 507 Main St for a report of a robbery that occurred at Santander Bank. Upon arrival, officers learned that a man had entered the bank, said that it was a robbery, and loudly demanded money.
An officer on scene took a photo of the suspect and sent it out over department email. Officers identified the suspect as thirty-five-year-old Christopher Grannis of King St. Officers checked the area and located a jacket in an alley across the street from the bank. The jacket appeared to be that worn by Mr. Grannis in the photo. A K9 was called to the scene and tracked Mr. Grannis to an alley in the area.
Officers began negotiating with Mr. Grannis and asking him to surrender. He refused, and threatened to shoot police and the K9. He was in a recessed area that was about fifteen feet below where officers were standing. The Worcester Fire Department assisted with a ladder, and officers went down into the area with Mr. Grannis and took him into custody.
Mr. Grannis was placed under arrest and is charged with Unarmed Robbery, Larceny over $1200, and an outstanding warrant.
