On December 31st, 2024, Worcester Police officers were dispatched to St. John’s Cemetery for a report of stolen bronze plaques. Officers from the Neighborhood Response Team were assigned to follow up on this theft.
After checking area scrap metal facilities, officers from the Neighborhood Response Team recovered the two missing bronze plaques, and an additional fifteen various veteran grave markers which had been scrapped at the same time. After an investigation, officers developed probable cause for the arrest of sixty-four-year-old Arthur Theurer of Temple St.
On January 2nd, 2025, Mr. Theurer was placed under arrest on Temple St. He is charged with Receiving Stolen Property Over $1200, Vandalizing a Gravestone, Sale of Stolen Grave Marker, and Receipt of Stolen Grave Marker.
