On September 7th 2023, officers assigned to the Neighborhood Response Team were engaged in foot patrols in the area of Castle Park. At about 10 AM, officers approached several individuals sitting down in the park with visible hypodermic needles. They observed a male, identified as Jason Marquez, thirty-eight-year-old of Main St, holding paper money in one hand and several individually wrapped bags in his other hand.
When officers approached Mr. Marquez, he placed the hand holding the bags behind his back and tried to walk away. Officers detained Mr. Marquez and removed the bags, which contained what appeared to be fentanyl and what appeared to be crack cocaine. Officers also found two digital scales. Mr. Marquez was placed under arrest for Possession of a Class A Substance (Fentanyl) with Intent to Distribute (2nd or Subsequent Offense) and Possession of a Class B Substance (crack cocaine) with Intent to Distribute (2nd or Subsequent Offense).
