On March 21st 2024, Worcester Police Gang Unit officers were conducting surveillance in the area of Whipple St. They were attempting to locate wanted twenty-year-old Devonta Berry, who had multiple outstanding warrants. At about 7:50 PM, officers saw Mr. Berry enter a sedan in front of a Whipple St residence. They pulled behind the vehicle and followed it to Ekman St, where it abruptly stopped.
Officers saw Mr. Berry exit the vehicle and begin to run. Officers saw that Mr. Berry was running with one arm swinging freely and another arm holding something inside his front sweatshirt pocket. Mr. Berry ran inside an Ekman St address, where he was later located by police. A handgun was also located, and Mr. Berry does not have a license to carry firearms. He was arrested on his warrants and charged additionally with Carrying a Firearm without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card.
