In response to recent gun violence in the city, the Worcester Police Department has established The Crime Gun Intelligence Unit. The CGIU is dedicated to curbing gun violence through the production of precise, timely, and actionable intelligence. Working in conjunction with our partners, we will prioritize targeting the most dangerous individuals involved in firearm-related offenses including repeat gun offenders. Through a combination of data-driven analysis and forensic investigations, we will identify and pursue these offenders, who are a small segment of our community.
Upon apprehension, these individuals, also referred to as "trigger pullers," will face rigorous prosecution with the primary objective of removing them from our community. Additionally, this serves as a stark reminder to others that there are significant consequences for engaging in gun violence. Collaboration is key, and the Worcester Police Department will work closely with local, state, and federal partners, including the United States Attorney's Office and District Attorney Joseph Early Jr.
