Officer Jesse Bonardi has recently been appointed as the LGBTQ+ Liaison for the Worcester Police Department. Interim Chief Paul Saucier recognizes that members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies would benefit from public support through the implementation of an LGBTQ+ Liaison. The purpose of the LGBTQ+ Liaison to the LGBTQ+ community is to build trust and strengthen the relationship between the LGBTQ+ community and the police department. Officer Bonardi will work directly with community members and community stakeholders to address their concerns and public service needs.
“My objective is to bridge the gap between our department and the LGBTQ+ community in our city. Many members of the LGBTQ+ community are reluctant or flat out refuse to report victimization to the police due to the anonymity that the community uniquely embodies. I will work hard to create a space where individuals from this community will feel comfortable and confident when reporting crimes to the police and resolve issues between the LGBTQ+ community and the police before they arise,” Bonardi said.
Officer Bonardi has been a police officer since 2005 and has served with the Worcester Police Department since 2008. He is the second officer to serve as the LGBTQ+ Liaison for the Department, following the retirement of Officer Sharron McQueen. We thank Officer McQueen for her 37 years of service to the Worcester Police Department and her dedication to the LGBTQ+ community.
