On April 17, 2024 at approximately 10:00pm detectives with the Crime Gun Intelligence Unit were patrolling the area of Endicott Street and Vernon Street. They observed a vehicle that failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign and rolled into traffic. Detectives activated their emergency lights and attempted to pull the vehicle over. The operator fled at a high rate of speed, with the vehicle hitting a dip in the road causing sparks to fly under it. Detectives decided not to pursue the vehicle in the residential area.
Detectives later observed a man running down Providence Street along with a car crash nearby. Detectives caught up with the man who was later identified as twenty-year-old Joshua Santos. He was placed under arrest and brought to the station for booking. He is charged with stop sign violation, leaving the scene of an accident property damage, operating to endanger, and failure to stop for police.
Detectives in the WPD’s Real Time Crime Center later viewed the path of the vehicle on video. Detectives searched the area of where it was traveling with a police K9 and recovered a large capacity firearm. The investigation is ongoing.
