On February 12, 2025, at approximately 7:00 PM, officers with the Worcester Police Department’s Crime Gun Intelligence Unit observed a vehicle speed by them on Vernon Street. The detectives pulled the vehicle over on Winthrop Street.
One male, later identified as twenty-two-year-old Steven Carter of Douglas, was observed to be taking long, heavy breaths, while another male occupant appeared to be concealing something. Concerned for their safety, the detectives ordered everyone in the vehicle to step out.
CGIU Detectives assisted by the Gang Unit searched the vehicle and recovered a firearm. Carter admitted that the weapon was his. He did not possess a valid license to carry.
Carter was arrested and was charged with Carrying a Firearm Without a license, Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Possession of Ammunition Without FID. The driver was told she will be receiving a written warning in the mail. She and the other occupants in the vehicle were free to leave. The Crime Scene Unit safely processed the firearm.
