Worcester, MA (April 15, 2015) - Thanks to the diligent work of the City's Parks crews, Worcester's public parks are expected to be open for the enjoyment of all next week.
The Department of Public Works & Parks will begin releasing spring field permits on Monday, April 20th, at every location with the exception of the Beaver Brook Softball Field and Logan Field Baseball.
DPW & Parks has made the decision after inspecting all park facilities for current field conditions, reviewing the weather forecast for the next five days and scheduling remaining maintenance work.
Beaver Brook Softball and Logan Baseball are still wet and spongy and will continue to be closed. The Department will review these two facilities at the beginning of next week and anticipate that they will be able to open them on Friday, April 24th. The Department will continue to have security staff review facilities nightly and over the weekend to help protect these community assets.
DPW & Parks would like to thank all of the leagues and organizations for their support, hard work and patience as the winter of 2014/2015 comes to a close.
The City of Worcester accumulated over 119 inches of snow and experienced one of the coldest three-month (January - March) stretches on record. The City understands that this has put a strain on the spring sports season, and DPW & Parks will work with all leagues and organizations to help address their needs as spring finally settles in.
