Traffic/Parking Advisory for Monday, September 17

The City of Worcester has issued a parking/traffic advisory for the Worcester Red Sox celebration on Monday, September 17.

The Worcester Police Department has announced street closures, parking restrictions and anticipated traffic delays. The department is anticipating heavy pedestrian crowds associated with this event and motorists are encouraged to exercise caution when traveling in the area surrounding downtown and the Canal District.

The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking will be restricted:

Worcester Common Oval Celebration:

• No parking from 7 a.m. through 10 p.m.: Franklin Street, Front Street, Commercial Street, Church Street, Mercantile Street, Main Street from Pleasant Street to Chatham Street
  
  
• Closed to vehicular traffic beginning at Noon: Commercial Street from Front Street to Mechanic Street
  
  
• Closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 2 p.m.: Main Street from Pleasant Street to Chatham Street, Franklin Street from Main Street to Salem Street, Church Street from Franklin Street to Front Street, Front Street from Main Street to Mercantile Street

The Canal District Alliance Block Party:

• Closed to vehicular traffic and no parking beginning at 3 p.m.: Water Street and Green Street at Temple

Fireworks Display:

• Closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 2 p.m.: Gold Street and Assonet Street

The Worcester Police Department anticipates streets to reopen around the Common area at approximately 7 p.m. and at 11 p.m. for the Canal District.

The Worcester Police Department is advising drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians to take extra care to obey the rules of the road and to be considerate of others traveling on local streets in the areas surrounding the event.

Parking for the event is available in the following locations (please see attached parking map below):

• Worcester Common Garage – 3 Eaton Place

• Mercantile Center Garage – 201 Commercial Street
  
  
• Pearl-Elm Garage – 20 Pearl Street
  
  
• McGrath Lot (Worcester Public Library) – 40 Salem Street
  
  
• General Pickett Lot – 45 Green Street
  
  
• Hibernian Cultural Center – 19 Temple Street

The following parking lots will be CLOSED for the duration of the day:

• Green Street Lot - 96 Green Street
  
  
• Water Street Lot - 85 Water Street
