Siemens Chooses Worcester Once Again, Moves Facility to New Building at Gateway Park

For Immediate Release: 7/3/2012 8:18 am

Worcester, MA (July 3, 2012) - Siemens Real Estate has signed a lease with builder The O'Connell Cos. Inc. to occupy 38,000 square feet of space in the newest Gateway Park building located at 50 Prescott Street, in Worcester. The company will house close to 200 non-manufacturing employees from Siemens Industry Inc.'s Metals Technologies "MT Worcester" business. The company plans to add ten positions within the next two years. Siemens is consolidating two of its three locations into this new space. Final building improvements are being made now and the move is expected to take place in September of this year.

"This move demonstrates Siemens' continuing commitment to our businesses here in Worcester," said Hubert Max Koebach, Vice President, Global Head of MT SM Long Rolling. "We expect to see many positive developments as our employees are able to work more collaboratively in this new space."

The business designs, manufactures, installs and services high-speed rod and bar mill equipment for the ferrous and non-ferrous metals long products industry, besides being global leader in core products for the flat mill metals industry through MORGOIL® heavy load bearings and other core equipment. MechaTronic controls are also part of the business portfolio which supports rapid production ramp-up of the installed rolling mills. MT Worcester has more than 520 employees, supporting research and development, sales, engineering, project management, supply chain management, manufacturing and after market services.

"In this challenging economic environment, I am grateful to Siemens for choosing Worcester and for working with the Gateway Park team to make the numbers work to get to 'yes.' It is a very competitive commercial market in the region. Their commitment keeps the positive legacy of Morgan Construction management right in Downtown Worcester and for that we are grateful," said City Manager Michael V. O'Brien.

Siemens' move completes the occupancy for this new facility and frees up valuable real estate on Belmont Street for re-use. The City's Division of Business Assistance will work with the developer and Worcester Polytechnic Institute to continue the progress at the Gateway Park site.

Siemens acquired the former Morgan Construction Company in 2008, which was founded in Worcester in 1888.
