Worcester, MA (June 29, 2012) - The Worcester Division of Public Health announced this afternoon the beaches at both Regatta Point and Lake Park Beach on Lake Quinsigamond are now open. Results from Thursday’s water quality sampling performed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation have indicated that the water quality levels have returned to normal.
Due to heavy rains on Monday, routine beach water sampling indicated above acceptable bacteria limits for recreational use at Regatta Point and Lake Park Beach. To protect the public’s health and the environment, Public Health officials from the City of Worcester and the Town of Shrewsbury had advised area residents not utilize this section of Lake Quinsigamond for recreational purposes such as swimming and bathing.
“The latest samples obtained from Lake Quinsigamond on Thursday indicate that the water had returned to acceptable water quality standards,” said Derek Brindisi, Director of Public Health. “With the return of the hot weather, we are happy to report that The Division of Public Health is lifting the advisory and encouraging the public to resume normal activities in and around the water.”
