For Immediate Release: 6/8/2023 10:41 am
WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester’s Department of Sustainability and Resilience has contracted an application of the herbicide diquat dibromide (trade name: Tribune) to portions of Indian Lake for Friday, June 9, 2023. We advise all persons to stay out of the water, discontinue boat use and fishing, and keep their pets out of the water. Beaches will be posted prior to the application. It is planned to reopen the lake on Sunday, June 11th.
Herbicide treatments are a safe and effective method to control the growth of the nuisance aquatic plant thin leafed pondweed. The application of herbicides is a common practice to reduce invasive weed density and poses no risk to humans and animals after application is complete. Application is coordinated with the Indian Lake Watershed Association and has been approved by the Worcester Conservation Commission.
