For Immediate Release: 7/8/2024 9:36 am

WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks (DPW&P) is working to repair a water main break on Heard Street near Stafford Street.

An 8-inch diameter water main break ruptured overnight on Heard Street near Stafford Street at the railroad bridge. Heard Street is currently closed to all traffic between Stafford Street and Genesee Street. Traffic is being detoured and will be for at least today. Crews on site have shut off the water and are assessing the situation. No customers are currently without water. The time to repair the water main and open the roadway is unknown at this time.

Following the water main break, the roadway has been severely undermined and railroad track operations have been impacted. Bridge inspectors will be evaluating the structure and the City is in the process of acquiring a contractor to assist with the repairs.
