The City of Worcester has released the following COVID-19 update:
To date, there have been 22,370 overall confirmed positive cases in Worcester. That is an increase of 359 cases since the City’s last COVID update on Thursday, April 1.
Positive case counts in surrounding towns: Shrewsbury: 2,816 (increase of 44); Holden: 1,384 (increase of 14); Grafton: 1,104 (increase of 15).
UMass Memorial Health Care and Saint Vincent Hospital have a combined total of 47 COVID-positive in-patients (decrease of 1) and 20 total COVID-positive ICU patients (increase of 6). To date, the combined facilities have had 710 COVID-related deaths (increase of 4). A total of 1,747 employees have tested positive for the virus (no change). All changes are from previous week’s report.
There have been 417 deaths of Worcester residents.
As of Wednesday, March 24, the City’s Division of Public Health reported that 53,328 total Worcester residents, or roughly 29 percent of the City’s population, had received at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 29,369 residents, about 16 percent, have received their second dose and are fully vaccinated. That’s a total of 82,697 doses.
Of the roughly 25,187 seniors 65 years of age and older in Worcester, 18,427 (73 percent) have received at least their first dose; 18,427 (73 percent) have been fully vaccinated.
As of Wednesday, a total of 6,205 doses have been administered via Mobile Vaccinations.
The City has administered a total of 3,146 Equity Doses through the State’s Vaccine Equity Initiative, which targets the hardest-hit neighborhoods and most under-represented populations in 20 Massachusetts Cities and Towns.
There have been 44,678doses administered at the Regional Vaccination Site offered at Worcester State University.
A walk-in Equity Vaccine Mobile Clinic will be held Saturday, April 10, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the YMCA, 766 Main St. The clinic is open to Equity and Phase-eligible individuals. The single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine will be administered as part of the State’s Vaccine Equity Initiative.
The City of Worcester has launched a new COVID Vaccination Dashboard that can be accessed at www.worcesterma.gov/coronavirus. The dashboard includes information on total doses administered in Worcester, breakdowns of vaccinations by age, ethnicity and gender, as well as number of doses administered by the City.
The City of Worcester’s Division of Parks & Recreation has opened playing fields for permitted and non-permitted use. Baseball and softball fields, as well as tennis courts, are open for use. Out of an abundance of caution, the fields will operate under Phase 3, Step 1 guidelines. All leagues must submit a plan of use based on those guidelines. Those plans can be sent to the Division of Parks & Recreation, 50 Skyline Drive, Worcester, MA, 01605. At this time, basketball and volleyball courts will remain closed. That decision will be revisited in the coming weeks.
