The City of Worcester will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new playground at Canterbury Street School on Tuesday, October 23 at 4:30 p.m., 129 Canterbury Street (Southgate Street side).
A Worcester Public Schools operated facility, the new play area will provide both students at the Canterbury Street School as well as children in the neighborhood with a safe, state-of-the-art playground on the site of what was once a blighted property.
The playground features a half-court basketball court, a netting structure designed to maximize the number of students who can use the facility at a single time, new paving and painting of the asphalt area, on-ground painted floor games, new fencing, trees and benches and a poured-in-place safety structure under the playground.
The Parks Division provided $425,000 for the project with an additional $35,000 from the Worcester Public Schools for parking upgrades and $25,000 donated by the Rotary Club of Worcester.
