WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester announced Thursday the Department of Health & Human Services is issuing a request for proposals for qualified nonprofit organizations to partner in a joint application for the RIZE Foundation’s grantmaking opportunity, focused on addressing the opioid overdose crisis.
The municipality will fund up to the maximum match amount of $50,000 to 10 organizations. This initiative will leverage best practices and align with the Massachusetts State Sub-Division Agreement for Statewide Opioid Settlements to expand interventions proven to save lives.
Funding from the City of Worcester is contingent upon the applicant being awarded the RIZE grant. The municipality’s financial support will be provided as matching funds, up to $50,000, only if the proposed project is selected for RIZE grant funding.
“This is a great opportunity for local nonprofits that work with individuals struggling with substance use disorder to be awarded funds to expand intervention services and help save more lives,” said City Manager Eric D. Batista. “We look forward to partnering with community organizations committed to addressing the opioid crisis.”
Eligible applicants must be a nonprofit organization based in Worcester or serve the Worcester community. Project focus areas include prevention, harm reduction, access to care, and recovery support.
The application is available on the Health and Human Services webpage. All proposals must be sent to Alex Arriaga, Deputy Commissioner of Health & Human Services, at arriagaa@worcesterma.gov and received by Nov. 1, 2024.
