Please help keep Worcester safe by clearing fire hydrants and catch basins of snow, debris and other waste. Doing so could mean preventing a flood or fire that could put your life in danger.
Access to hydrants is critical in the event of a fire. Please help us by keeping hydrants closest to your residence or business clear of snow and grass/weed overgrowth. During the winter months, storms can often hide fire hydrants under a mountain of snow making them impossible to find quickly. In the event of a fire, firefighters have to locate and shovel out fire hydrants before hook up. Please shovel a 3-foot clearance on all sides.
Consider joining the Adopt-A-Hydrant program by calling Worcester 311 at 311. By clearing hydrants of snow during the winter months and overgrowth the rest of the year, you will receive a hydrant adoption certificate along with our sincere gratitude for helping to keep Worcester safe.
Catch Basins are the receptacles below the square grate in the street next to the curb. They are designed to accept stormwater flows and catch debris that should not be transferred to local receiving waters. Please help us reduce local street flooding during storms by clearing debris, leaves or snow from the tops of catch basins.
