On November 15th, 2024, a Worcester Police officer was working a paid detail in the area of Vinson St when he saw twenty-year-old Caleb Dayton, who the officer knew had outstanding warrants. Mr. Dayton got out of a vehicle and entered a Vinson St address. The officer contacted officers assigned to the Neighborhood Response Team and told them what he observed.
Officers confirmed that Mr. Dayton had four outstanding warrants, which included charges such as carjacking, larceny, breaking and entering, and drug offenses. In addition, Mr. Dayton did not have a driver’s license. Mr. Dayton left the address, and officers set up surveillance around the residence.
When Mr. Dayton returned, officers approached him as he exited the vehicle. Mr. Dayton attempted to enter the residence and lock the door, but officers grabbed him in the doorway. Officers placed Mr. Dayton under arrest, and located a large black Tec-9 firearm on his person. Caleb did not have a license to carry firearms.
After receiving additional information, officers applied for and were granted a search warrant for the Vinson St address. Inside the residence, officers located multiple AR-platform rifles, a shotgun, an additional handgun and a large amount of ammunition. Mr. Dayton is charged with multiple counts of Unlawfully Carrying a Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, Armed Career Criminal Level 1, and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
