On April 7th, 2024, at about 12:45 AM, Worcester Police officers riding double were on patrol in the area of Aetna St when they were behind a Ford Explorer. The operator of the Explorer accelerated at a high rate of speed on Blanche St, and the officers estimated the vehicle was traveling at about 50 miles per hour.
The officers briefly lost sight of the vehicle before catching up to it on Fox St. Officers observed the operator, later identified as twenty-one-year-old James Cabrera of Trowbridge Circuit, standing outside the vehicle. Mr. Cabrera produced what appeared to be a black handgun, pointed it at the officers, and took a shooting stance.
Officers put on their emergency lights and unholstered their own firearms. Mr. Cabrera ran back into his vehicle and drove away at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued the vehicle, but lost sight of the vehicle and called off the pursuit. Officers located Mr. Cabrera later on Trowbridge Circuit and placed him under arrest. He is charged with two counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (firearm), Failure to Stop for Police, and Operating to Endanger.
