On November 26th, 2024, at about 12:24 AM, Worcester Police officers were dispatched to a ShotSpotter activation in the area of Harlem St. Officers from the Crime Gun Intelligence Unit were assigned to follow up on the incident. As a result of the investigation, officers determined that someone had fired multiple rounds toward the area of the I-290 highway.
On November 27th, at about 5 PM, officers from the Crime Gun Intelligence Unit, with assistance from the ATF, obtained a warrant for a South Harlem St address. At the address, officers located a handgun with a conversion device, informally known as a “Glock switch.”
Kavont Kelly, who was previously arrested today for breaking into cars in the Salisbury St area, is charged with Possession of a Machine Gun, Possession of a Loaded Machine Gun, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Possession of Ammunition without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling, and Use of a Firearm While Committing a Felony.
