On June 29, 2024, Worcester Police officers were monitoring the Alden Street side of Castle Park, an area which is known for individuals using and dealing drugs. Officers observed a man, later identified as forty-eight-year-old Miguel Martinez, remove a white rock-like substance from his left side and place it on a stone wall where he broke it into smaller pieces. He then distributed the pieces of the substance to those around him. The individuals took the drug, believed to be crack cocaine, and smoked it.
As officers approached the individuals, they began to scatter and leave the park. Officers kept an eye on Martinez who reached down to the ground to quickly conceal the drugs. Officers detained Martinez and told him what they had observed.
Martinez was searched and white bag was found inside of his right shoe. Two rock-like substances believed to be crack cocaine, approximately 7-10 grams, where discovered. Martinez was placed under arrest. He is charged with possession of class B and possession of class B with intent to distribute.
