On Monday, September 5, 2022 at approximately 1:00 AM a Worcester Police Officer was traveling in the vicinity of the Southwest Common Plaza when she saw a large amount of debris on the road. The officer then observed a vehicle flipped on its roof and on fire. She radioed for assistance and proceeded to make contact with the driver. The 22-year-old male was not alert as the officer got no response when she asked him to unbuckle himself. The officer pried the passenger door open but was unable to reach the buckle due to the fire. Another officer arrived on scene the two officers began to cut the seatbelt. The officers were able to extricate the male from the vehicle. The male was moved a safe distance away from the fire until Worcester EMS. A few minutes later, the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames. The male was rushed to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries. The Crash Reconstruction Team was activated and the Worcester Fire Department arrived on scene to put out the fire.

The investigation reveals that the operator was traveling east on the southwest cutoff at the high rate of speed with his lights off. The operator traveled into the right side shoulder and hit a large boulder. His vehicle flipped numerous times before coming to a rest several feet down the road.
