For Immediate Release: 11/6/2022 10:54 am
On November 6th 2022 at about 1:10 AM, a Worcester Police officer was on patrol in the area of Winter and Grafton St. Images of a white Ford Explorer with a particular license plate had been shared over department email in connection with an investigation into an incident in which shots were fired. The officer recognized the vehicle, called for backup, and began to follow it up Grafton St.
Once the officer reached the area of 263 Grafton St he activated his blue lights and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle took off at a high rate of speed up Grafton St, and the officer pursued the vehicle as another Worcester Police officer joined in his own cruiser. The vehicle continued to operate in a reckless manner, so officers terminated the pursuit on Massasoit Rd.
Later, officers received an update that Millbury Police were pursuing the vehicle on route 20 headed toward Auburn. At about 1:50 AM, Worcester Police officers were advised that the vehicle was disabled in Auburn. Officers from Auburn, Millbury, Oxford, Worcester and the Massachusetts State Police were on scene. Five male juveniles were removed from the vehicle, and three loaded handguns were discovered.
The males were placed under arrest and are facing serious charges in connection with the firearms. In addition, the driver is charged with Operating to Endanger, Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and other motor vehicle charges.
