On August 2, 2023, at approximately 6:44 PM members of the Worcester Police Neighborhood Response Team were in the area of Millbury Street when they observed a male operating a motorcycle without a helmet and without a registration plate. The operator proceeded to drive on the sidewalk. Officers initiated a traffic stop.
The operator of the motorcycle was identified as Miguel Romero-Rivera. Mr. Romero-Rivera was trying to walk away from officers and ignored them. He began to reach into his pocket. At this time, officers feared that Mr. Romero-Rivera may have a weapon. They attempted to place him in handcuffs, but he resisted. Additional officers arrived on scene and they were able to apprehend Mr. Romero-Rivera. A search of Mr. Romero-Rivera revealed that he had a handgun in his shorts and was in possession of 25 rocks of crack cocaine.
Miguel Romero-Rivera, was charged with use of firearm in a felony, resisting arrest, possession of a large capacity firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity feeding device, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, riding a motorcycle without a helmet, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and possession of class B substance with intent to distribute.
