On Wednesday, January 19, 2022 officers assigned to the Neighborhood Response Team observed the operator of a vehicle ignore several stop signs. An officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop by activating their lights and sirens. The vehicle pulled over on Chandler Street. The officer exited his vehicle and the operator of the vehicle fled toward Queen Street. The officer got back into his vehicle and followed the vehicle which proceeded to crash into a parked car on Queen Street. The driver and the passenger of the vehicle exited the car and fled on foot toward Chandler Street. The officer exited his vehicle and a foot chase ensued. The officer ordered the male who was driving the vehicle to stop several times. The male continued on and was reaching several times into his waistband. The male was trying to hold onto the object in his waistband as he jumped over a fence. However, he dropped it and retrieved the object before proceeding to run through backyards in the vicinity of Piedmont Street. The male ran behind Santiago’s liquor Store and then continued up Hawley Street toward Pleasant St. The officer continued to command the male to stop. He then surrendered himself to the officers and was placed under arrest. The male was identified as Tremon Walker, 23 years old, of 9 Euclid Avenue, Worcester.
A second NRT officer who arrived on scene was able to track down the passenger of the vehicle who was also fleeing on foot. He was identified as Darrel Perez. Mr. Perez was in possession of a package containing marijuana.
Through video evidence in the vicinity of Santiago’s Liquors, officers learned that during the foot pursuit, Mr. Walker discarded a firearm into a dumpster. Officers located the loaded firearm and secured it as evidence.
Inside Mr. Walker’s vehicle officers discovered 28-packets of marijuana and cash.
Mr. Walker was charged with improperly storing a firearm, resisting arrest, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of ammunition without and FID card, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, operating after a suspended license, leaving the scene of property damage, failure to stop for police and possession of Class D substance with intent to distribute. Mr. Walker was also issued stop sign violations.
Darrell Perez, 22, of 151 Belmont Street, Worcester was charged with trespassing, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, possession of Class D substance with intent to distribute and resisting arrest.
