The City of Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks has contracted a lake management
company to use a mechanical harvester in Coes Reservoir starting on Monday, July 8, 2019, in order to address the invasive water chestnut (Trapa natans). The harvester will be removing the aquatic weeds in the northern portion of the Reservoir for the duration of the week.
Mechanical harvesting has proven to be a safe and effective method for the control of water chestnut without the use of aquatic herbicides. Harvesting is coordinated with the Tatnuck Brook Watershed Association and the Knights of Columbus, and has been approved by the Worcester Conservation Commission.
