For Immediate Release: 10/30/2020 9:19 am
The City of Worcester Department of Public Works & Parks will commence the annual drawdown of Indian Lake on or around November 2, 2020. The water level will be reduced several inches per day over the course of the next few weeks up to five feet. The lake will then be maintained at this level throughout the winter to help manage non-native invasive aquatic plants. The water will be brought back up to its normal level by no later than April 1, 2021.
Winter drawdowns have proven to be an effective way to control the growth of aquatic weeds along the shoreline and in shallow parts of City lakes and ponds. The drawdown is coordinated with the Indian Lake Watershed Association, and has been approved by the Worcester Conservation Commission.
