Worcester to Host Preservation Awards Wed., May 15

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester Preservation Awards will be presented to nine awardees at the Salisbury House at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

Presented by Preservation Worcester and the Worcester Historical Commission, the ceremony is an opportunity to highlight the outstanding historic preservation, rehabilitation, and restoration projects in the Worcester community that help preserve and share Worcester’s diverse history. The event is free, and all are welcome to join in celebrating the projects.

The projects being awarded in 2024 have not only brought new life to underutilized historic buildings, but have also developed new partnerships, created community engagement and storytelling opportunities, and helped foster vibrant neighborhoods in the city. This year’s awards are as follows:

Commercial Rehabilitation:

• Mission Chapel - 205 Summer St.
• Walker Shoe Factory - 82 Water St.

Community Partnership:

• The Worcester Black History Trail

Compatible Construction:

• The Worcester Art Museum’s Lancaster Plaza

Merit:

• The Green Hill Park Arboretum

Residential Rehabilitation:

• William A. & Ella M. Warden House – 7 Circuit Ave. East

Stewardship:

• Dr. Robert H. Goddard Birthplace –1 Tallawanda Dr.
• Jessie M. & George D. Moore House – 201 Salisbury St.
• Dr. Walter H. & Mrs. Abbie L. Sears House – 22 Westland St.
