Worcester, MA (July 20, 2015) - Worcester residents and workers looking for a fun Friday evening to hang out with friends, listen to live music and kick back with a cold beer and tasty local food are in luck this Friday, when the Worcester Common plays host to all of that and more at the Worcester Local Weekend Friday Night Kickoff this Friday, July 24th from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
The evening will start off with a City Hall vs. the Media kickball game at 5:00 PM, followed by pick-up games open to the public at 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM, sponsored by the World Adult Kickball Association (WAKA).
All that kickball is sure to make people thirsty, so Wormtown Brewery will be on hand, serving their award-winner brews in a beer garden on the Paul V. Mullaney Plaza. The night also features live music from the Worcester Jazz Collective, area food truck vendors, a pop-up café and much more.
The Common will also feature a live spray paint demonstration and open canvas sponsored by CC Lowell, chair massages by Soothe Massage Therapy, a Cornhole bean bag toss game, live t-shirt screen printing from Worcester Wares and a photo booth.
In addition, local officials will test their knowledge at a Worcester Regional Research Bureau trivia competition at 6:00 PM across the street at the Pop-Up Gallery at 20 Franklin Street. Worcester City Councilors and School Committee members will compete in a friendly competition to prove they're smarter, or at least as smart, as any 5th grader.
The Kick-Off aims to provide Worcester residents and workers a fun night in the emerging downtown area as well as to encourage patronage at local businesses. The event will include opportunities to learn about special sales and deals being offered at businesses in Worcester all weekend.
The event is sponsored by the City of Worcester, Mass Development, the Worcester Business Development Corporation, Action! Worcester, the Worcester Regional Research Bureau, Worcester Local First, Worcester Wares, Destination Worcester, Farnswood and Seed to Stem.
