WORCESTER, Mass. – The City of Worcester is inviting the public to take a Community Development Survey to offer feedback and help inform use of the municipality’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.
CDBG funds are federal funds reserved for programs and projects that primarily benefit low- and moderate-income households and individuals. Public input is essential as the municipality works to identify funding priorities for CDBG and other U. S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) entitlement funds. Through the City, CDBG funds are allocated to municipal departments, other public agencies, public and private non-profit entities, and for-profit entities to carry out eligible community development projects in Worcester. This year Worcester received $4,261,392 in CDBG funds.
Every five years, the municipality submits a Consolidated Plan to HUD outlining how it will use the funds to address the community’s needs. The public is encouraged to take the survey to help guide the municipality’s next Five-Year Consolidated Plan (2025-2030) for use of future funds.
Examples of eligible CDBG projects include renovation of public facilities, including roads and sidewalks in low-income neighborhoods; rehabilitation and improvement of affordable housing; support for basic needs and services such as food pantries, youth and health programs; and numerous other programs and services that assist those low-to moderate income people and neighborhoods in the city.
Residents can take the survey here. It will be available until Dec. 20, 2024.
