The Worcester Fire Department will host its inaugural Awards Ceremony on Saturday, November 24 at 5 p.m. at Mechanics Hall.
Members of the Worcester Fire Department that will be honored are: Medal of Valor Award: Captain Adam Roche, Firefighter Blake Perron, Lt. Patrick Moran, Firefighter Matthew Kane; Medal of Heroism Award: Lt. Timothy Ridick and Lt. Christopher Kelly. Commendations will be presented to Captain Paul Grodzki and Firefighter John Ushinski.
In addition, Citizen Recognition Awards will be presented to Mark Laliberte and Jeffery Savoie. Laliberte rescued a disabled neighbor from a fire on John Street in May and ensured that the remaining tenants had safely evacuated. Savoie, an employee at the Washington Heights apartments, helped contain and extinguish a kitchen fire in September which significantly reduced the amount of property damage.
“We look forward to making this an annual event where we honor the men and women of the Worcester Fire Department for their heroic actions during the past year,” said Chief Michael Lavoie. “It’s also important that we recognize civilians in our community like Mr. Laliberte and Mr. Savoie whose initial actions at fire events are often vital to maintaining overall safety.”
